This month, we are putting the spotlight on Red Lion’s NT4008 Profinet Switches.
What are they?
Red Lion’s NT4008 Profinet Switches are 8-port Gigabit Layer 3 managed Industrial Ethernet switches. The switches are designed for industrial applications, OEM, remote and alternative energy markets. They seamlessly integrate into existing manufacturing processes and give real-time information.
The switches come with six 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports and two dual-mode SFP slots for optional 100Base or 1000Base SFP transceivers.
The switches are certified to meet Profinet PNIO V2.34 Conformance Class B (CC-B), RT Class 1 Standards. This ensures seamless integration into Profinet networks using a standard PLC configuration and management tools. The product also comes with a GSDML file as standard, MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol), client or client/manager configurations, 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports and dual-mode SFP ports support 100Base and 1000Base SFP transceivers.
Why Profinet?
Profinet is an open industrial Ethernet protocol. It provides a common mechanism for configuration, data exchange and device management. Profinet devices have real-time data exchange, which brings cycle times down to 1 millisecond or faster. This means that they are able to facilitate the transfer of large data sets at speed. Profinet exchanges data quickly in a predefined arrangement, including quality and asset management; this allows for proactive maintenance and minimises downtime.

The NT4008 managed industrial Ethernet switches are housed in rugged IP30 metal enclosure and feature a -40 to +75°C operating temperature. To ensure reliable operation in the most demanding industrial environments, the series is UL Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX listed for use in hazardous and ordinary locations, ABS, and EN50155 certified for rail applications.

The NT4008 managed industrial switches provide a high level of security with SSH, SSL, HTTPS, IP and MAC-based port security, policy-based access control, and storm protection.
